Engineering methods to predict fatigue life of structures have been available since the early of the 20th century. However, practical problem arises from complex loading condition as well as the accuracy of the methods under variable amplitude loading cause a significant concern. This paper provides an overview of existing fatigue damage models with emphasis on relatively new alternative models or computational strategies to predict fatigue life. Comparison were made between the models with discussion on the promising new capabilities.

Key words: Continuum damage mechanics, fatigue damage, cohesive zone
